There was a Fairbanks Morse H20-66 proposed locomotive. Was this locomotive a H20-44 switcher version or H16-66 locomotive uprated or a version of the H20-44 proposed for rebuilding from Erie-builts. Gary

As proposed the H20-66 was a six axle end cab design,  however there had been speculation that on customer request or on prodution units a short hood could have been provided in a carbody similar to that of the H15-44.if built the later units(after 1953)most likely would have used the H16-66 Baby train master carbody. In the late 1940s a 2000hp normally aspirated FM O-P 10 cyl single engine C-C hood unit was a radical idea. Following is from the book  Diesel Demonstrators by Karl Erk pg114,  A six motor H20-66 would have used trucks identical to those on Baldwin six-motored hood units, and although drawings were circulated,no carrier expressed interest, perhaps lack of a short hood for optional steam heat equipment limited the proposed H20-66 appeal. more likely was the 1949 debut of the EMD GP7 with its proven internal components which immediately negetivley affected all other builders Road Switcher sales.
