HI AGAIN, I WAS WONDERING WHAT THE MAJOR DIFFERANCES BETWEEN THE EMD AR11/AR16/AR20 .THE REASON I ASK IS THAT IN OUR EMD/ CLYDE JT26C-2SS MODEL THE FIRST BATCH  WERE FITTED WITH EMD 645E3B/AR16 AND THE VICTORIAN RAILWAYS VERSION CAME WITH THE AR11/645E3C AND AR11/645F3 AND I WAS WONDERING WHY? .AS FAR AS THE AR20 IS CONCERNED IT PROBABLY WON'T REACH OUR SHORES DOWN UNDER AS ITS WEIGHT LIMITATION IS BEYOND OUR AXLE LOADINGS WHEN WE WANT TO COMBINE IT WITH A 4000GAL. FUEL TANK SO ALL NEW LOCOMOTIVES BEING BUILT THUS FAR WILL BE AC/AC TRANSMITION. THANKS ....................FOAMER8101Bow [bow]

The difference is in the maximum amperage rating, the AR-16 has the lowest rating, the AR-11 is in the middle, and the AR-20 has the highest rating. Higher rating means more mass, and more weight. The locomotive with the AR-16 will be more limited in slow speed high throttle pulling.
