UP "deadline" locomotives with missing Radiatiors and Fan.

So, I saw the oddest (to me) thing as I was driving past the Roseville yard this evening.

They've been collecting a lot of old power again including old SD60s and SD60Ms.

I saw at least 2 SD60M 3 windows units that had had their radiator cores and fans removed. So you could see through the corrugated screens and the fan shrouds were gone.

I can think of a number of reasons why this may have been done in general, but I'm curious if anyone knows the specifics for these units and why only the 3 window units (other SD60Ms and the SD60s looked intact.

I recall seeing these units being moved on one of the webcams, maybe in NE.

My guess they were picked for parts.

I do have to wonder whether they're about to be used for construction of experimental 'zero-carbon' power -- perhaps they're eventually going to Fullerton?

That might be possible.  Metra is also looking at converting 3 F40PH's to straight battery power for rush-hour operations.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

I know the 3 window units did not get the ECO treatment, because there would be added cost compared to the 2 window units.

Of course in this case you're junking even more of the loco, so maybe it doesn't matter.

I noticed today that a bunch of the GE C44AC(cte) units in the deadline also have their radiators pulled. At least I assume they are AC units I didn't catch the model designation or note if the inverter cabinet was there. I haven't seen a dash 9 in roseville in probably close to a decade.
