EMD SD70Ace Rebuilds
Posted by RailEagle on Saturday, May 12, 2018 10:26 AM

As some of the oldest ACes hit the fifteen year old mark is it likely that we will see rebuilds? One thing of note is that BNSF has already started a rebuild program (MACe) for its SD70MACs.

Probably not for a few more years. The locomotives that are currently being rebuilt are the oldest Dash-9s and AC4400s along with some of the SD70MACs, which are 20+ years old. As technology has improved overhaul intervals have lengthened.

In fact the 70Macs and Dash9s are approaching 25 years. the ACe really only entered production in 2005. It's at most 13 years old. And there are still brand new ones.

Does BNSF have any plans to rebuild/uprade those SD60M's as well?

Some of the SD60M's have already been rebult to -3 standards and numbered 1400-1476.  No additional information on additional rebuilds  of the SD60M's.
