I have seen on various forums that new engines are delivered to the purchasing railroad and moved to an engine facility for setup prior to being put into service. Other than adding fuel, lube oil and cooling water what has to be done to setup a new engine?
These days, engines are shipped with lube oil-requiring only the addition of cooling water and treatment plus top-off of fuel.
The builders' rep usually performs a physical inspection of the unit...culminating with a series of self-tests.
The rr guys do everything from adding certain items of electronics-testing same-and plastering the cab with all manner of decals.
If the rr guys cooperate, the entire process takes one or two shifts.
So, if for example, a railroad wants cab signals in their locomotives, the railraod guys would install these? Wha telse would they install?
