I am hearing rumors about UP retiring their SD9043MAC's and putting them into a deadline where they will be sold or junked. Does anyone know the real story and is this true. I have also ready people are still seeing SD9043MAC's today so does that mean UP is retiring some but not all?

Maybe a leaser or even a regional railroad will pick them up.
The Indiana Railroad already has several SD9043MACs on their roster.
We just had a thread about this a couple months ago...see if this answers your questions:http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/741/t/217974.aspx
And,
Look under the locomotives section of the Ozark Mountain Railcar website. There are 4 SD90 MACs up for sale. If you have $600,00 then they're all yours...
According to the Canadian Railway Observations, UP is planning on retiring the entire fleet because of major wear is showing and they are costing tons to repair. CP just sold their SD90 fleet to an unknown buyer. CITX appears to be the only railroad that's keeping their SD90s.
