Hello Railfan communety im relatively new to railfanning and i live up to 6 Hrs away from a nearest railroad, BNSF UP CN CP etc. so i dont see a single locomotive. I can i dentify some GE/EMD locomotives. So i would love if someone would tell me how to tell the differance from a GE ES44DC AC and a C4 please help a felow railfan out. thanks alot. Smile

Dan,

  The ES44DC & ES44AC locomotive are quite similar.  The difference is on the air intakes behind the cab area.  You might want to to the RR Pictures Archive web site and review some photo:

  The ES44C4 is a BNSF only model at this time.  It looks like an ES44AC except for the trucks.  You will see an air piston/lever on the center axle.  This provides a lifting action to unload the center idler axle and transfer more weight to the outer powered axles when starting.

No I didn't shoot those videos, a young man from Pennsylvania does them, and quite well I might add.

Now you COULDN"T have gone through them all!  Keep at it, there's a lot more.
