Could have depended on what the Cores where.  Hey when you have SW for 233c23ores they will look Differant than when you have say a GP20 for the core.

UPY was more of a proof of concept locomotive though, not a production model. So that's not entirely fair. 

 

Most sales are for 3 engine gensets right? So maybe they determined there's a market for an endcab model with 2 gensets that was bigger than the current  model. I know there are single genset switchers being made as end cabs as well in small quantities.
