The Union Pacific SD59MX was on display today at CSRM near the Sacramento Capitol.  It is called a SD59M-2 by EMD and has the new 710 motor with new fuel tanks and computer controls along with the large radiators.   It looked very nice with the business train at Sacramento. They use a SD60M for the rebuild and I believe the HP is now 3000.

  Nice Looking!

If they used a V12-710ECO power plant, it should be rated at about 3200 hp, maybe 3300 hp with those large radiators for cooling.

I noticed somewhere what the HP rating was, but could not remember the exact number.  You are probably right that it is more than 3000.   It is a great looking unit with the new fuel tank mandated now for rebuilds.  I believe it is the V12 and hope to see more of then soon.  The Union Pacific had sent several up to London for the modification so more are on their way to the mainline. The EMD plate on the side calls the unit a SD59M-2, but the UP calls it SD59MX.  I would think it is like the GP40X models and might retain this name even if they become standard rebuilds.

Those Flared Radiators resemble the same flared radiators used on several groups of SD70Ms that the Union Pacific got in the large SD70M order.

They probably are the same type since EMD did the rebuilding of this unit.  I thought it looked nice.

I found out the Union Pacific had a special presentation board with facts on it and the HP 3000 was listed for the SD59MX.  That might mean the software is limiting these to 3000HP which is what the SD40-2 had and they replaced them.   However, the motor is rated at 3150HP and the fact the UP board listed it at 3000 must be software restricted.

How long was she there?

Any idea where she went? If she's still there or in Roseville, I may swing around to try and find her.

The unit was on display for one day or so when the business train was in town.  It was on display for the government big shots to see at Sacramento to convince them the Union Pacific was really green instead of the traditional Yellow and Gray.
