SD20-2 Found
Posted by Hamltnblue on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 2:33 PM

Hello All

While at a project at the Airport Industrial Park south of Philly I found  a pair of loco's hiding behind a clump of trees in a parking lot. The gauges and inside looks like it's been kept up.  The other loco is a B30-7.

I only had my cell phone and will have to return with a better camera.   They also have a 45 toner at the entrance but had cars parked in front of it.

Should be an ex-B&O SD35 that has been de-turbo'ed and rebuilt for local/transfer service.

ICG/IC Paducah also rebuilt SD24's into what they called SD20s. The Paducah rebuilds had the SD24's original round roof replaced with a newer angular cab, air filter system while retaining the SD24 long hood and frame.

Of course the above "SD20-2" is a converted, deturboed SD35 with paper filter box.

This area of the industrial park has some sort of railroad training that you see going on now and then.  I think they are used for that but the rust on the track suggests that they haven't moved recently.  There are several pieces of rolling stock nearby that have been moved though.

Yesterday I returned with my DSLR.

I posted a bunch more photo's on my photobucket account. The link to the album with about 55 images is at the bottom of this post.

Here you see the bell has been removed

A pic inside one of the trucks.  Traction motor is gone.

Pic with cab door open.

That is INTERESTING. I'd love to know anything anyone knows about these locos, especially considering that one of them is a Dash 7 that has somehow escaped the scrapper!
