Anyone on here from Roanoke, VA? That is the home of the Class A 1218 N&W Steamer, for those that don't know. Welcome feedback.

I visited Roanoke a few times, but do not live there.  This is a picture I took on my first visit.  It probably has changed since that day.

I lived in Roanoke for over 30 years.  It was a sad day when the announcement came that the "A" would not be returned to service.

I recall one of the excursions when the A was heading up the Shenandoah Valley line out of Roanoke.  I took my young sons down near the intersection of Hollins Road and Pocahontas St.  The grade starts right as the line leaves the main, and I knew it would be working hard (plus there were some signals there which would suit photography).   The boys said "Dad!  The ground shook!".

I know, son, that's why I wanted you to be here.
