New locos for 2009
Posted by fecsd40-2 on Thursday, April 23, 2009 2:55 PM

Does anyone have any info on new locos for 2009 for any road besides UP, BNSF, and CN?  Also, is QNSL going to recieve 24 ES44ACs this year as reported in Wikepedia?  Or the rumor of 12 more engines for IAIS in 2009?  Thanks in advance for any info.

Well, I don't know about any new units, but I bet that some of the older GE's (U30C's etc.) and older EMD's(SD40-2's etc.) Will be either scrpped, or become road slugs, or lease units.

The class 1s are storing many mainline locos due to the economic downturn.  UP’s even storing C44-9Ws and SD70Ms.  I know BNSF is getting ES44/AC/DC/AC4s being delivered now or just recently, though I don’t think class 1s are placing orders for many new locos.

I've heared that! UP storing there big workhorse! That would have sounded like crazy talk a couple years ago. Now it's just another sighn of the times. (Thes SD70M is my favorite locomotive by the way.)

While I'm sorry to see the 4000's in storage every locomotive we store for 90 days = 1 more job we get to keep. so that puts storing power in a different light. by the way; Over on the UP side the C44-9W's were never the workhorses everyone else got. we started storing those junkers long before Any SD70's were parked
