Big 8-wheeler rolling down the track

I don't think he is referring to a 4-4-0, and I have never heard a more modern eight-coupled engine referred to as an eight wheeler. So I'm going with the interpretation of eight-wheeler meaning a boxcar. Someone mentioned that a rattler was a fast train. I had always heard that a rattler was a freight train. That <em>movin' on </em>theme could have meant by passenger train, but it was sure a favorite motive of the freight hopping culture. I don't see anything unusual about mentally talking to the engineer from a boxcar back in the middle of the train, especially when you are movin' on.
