Another "what if"- true "hybrid"

So, now that we know about what the perfect passenger locomotive should be able to do, (thanks, Erik), the question now is- is there any proven prime mover in the USA capable of producing the power output mentioned? In terms of raw horsepower, the answer would appear to be Yes- diesel design has given us 6,000 horsepower engines. However, are the prime movers in the AC 6000's capable of providing the "sprint" power you are looking for? If I read Erik's response correctly, it would seem that there is a need to produce 8,000 to 10,000 DHP for at least a minute... is there anything out there like that?
