Many Milwaukee Road locomotives ended at Chrome or PNC. Does anybody know what happened then? I know most were cut up - but have some survived? What happened to Chrome and PNC?
I heard a "rumor" and I stress that word that there are still the hulks of many locomtives (not necessarily ex-milw) at the Silvis, IL Chrome Crankshaft shop. Anybody know if that is true?
I'm also curious as to these facilities operations - How did they work? Milw dumped a good number of locomotives on them 84-87, how did they deal with the volume of work?
Thanks Cotton Belt - all roads lead to NRE. I poked around, and I doubt they have any ex milw stuff lying around. Most of Milw locos were in pretty rough shape 20 years ago when they landed there. It seems the SW9/12/1500's were rebuilt in quantity however - where did they go?
So how did they deal with the volume of work in the mid 80's? There must have been an incredible amount of it considering the state of the rail industry and its locomotives?
How do you go about dismantleing a loco?
How does one index extra 2200 South issues to find info on a particular railroad in back issues?
