What's a GP39V?

Just saw a picture on rrpicturesarchive.net of what's listed as a GP39V.  Was wondering if someone could give me some history on this model. The flared radiators look familiar, but the curved molding immediately behind the conductor's "office" doesn't.  Is this a rebuild of some sort?

First, it looks to be a rebuilt GP35 and by the model designation, it will have a 12 cylinder, 645E3 engine (2300HP).

Second, the 'curved molding' is likely to be the traction motor blower housing.

The GP39V's were rebuilt from GP35's by VMV for BN in 1990 and 1991. They are numbered BN/BNSF 2960-2984.  http://www.trainpix.com/BN/EMDRBLD/GP39V/INDEX.HTM

 There was an extensive article some years ago in "Diesel Era" about this program. BN rebuilt both GP35 and GP30 units as part of it.  Both MK and VMV were involved. The locomotives had their original 16-567 engines rebuilt to 16-645 specs (they were not repowered with new 12-645 prime movers) and retained their turbochargers. The electrical systems were upgrated to Dash 2 standards and the original generators were replaced with alternators. Basically they were completely remanufactured and considered "zero hour" new builds.
