Can anyone tell me about the problems that are happening with the Green Goats and other hybrid locomotives?

This was covered fairly well on the Railspot list a couple of months ago. There have been battery fires in several Green Goats. All that stored stored electricity (heat) with nowhere to go. The wags called these adventures blackened goat.

Most of what's happening with the Green Goats could come under the heading of what the British call "teething troubles".  As is true with any new or updated technological application, a lot of problems don't get discovered until real-world usage finds them.
