Cog Railroad
Posted by grayfox1119 on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 6:28 PM

On October 6th, 2018, the last train up Mt. Washington derailed on the return trip down at Jacob's Ladder. I heard it was a broken rail, others on the train said a wheel fell off. Does anyone know what really caused the problem? People on the train were stranded for hours while the staff and crew helped all the passengers to the station.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! The Conway (NH) Daily Sun reported it as a bearing failure.

Thanks for the research.  Is the line back in business?

Since it never made the statewide media (Manchester Union Leader and WMUR-TV) it was apparently a pretty minor incident.

As I recall, Jacobs Ladder track is on a low trestle and in the 30% grade range.  I wonder how they ever evacuated the passengers safely.
