As the editors of the magazine had put proposials out to organizations to be given a grant to restore an important locomotive and or coach. This year's winner of the grant was the Cumbres and Toltec scenic railway on the restoration of rio grande 168 when the grant would sponsor the locomotive's restoration of the boiler jacket. As the locomotive was choosen to give future generations a glimpse into the early days of narrow gauge railroading when the locomotive was built in the 1880's by baldwin for rio grande as the restoration was to mimick a 1916 rebuilding not before it was retired before 1940 and was put on public display for seven decades as it was to be restored to cosmetic and operating condition as the restoration of several coaches from the 1880's to give a glimpse of an operating trainset.
