Private Cars at the defunct Main St Station in Vegas
Posted by GN_Fan on Thursday, December 7, 2017 10:58 AM

I'm on Facebook and belong to a group caled "Surviving Passenger Cars in the US."  There was a post about a car adjacent to a casino just north of the Plaza called Main St Station that was shown of TVs Pawn Stars.  I lived in Vegas for a number of years and ate dinner in the dining car adjacent to the one shown in the video and billed as Buffalo Bill's private car.  There were 2 cars there, one dining car as part of the casino with the other one closed to the public.  Both were of the Gilded Age and immaculately maintained.  The video relative to the closed car is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzfWuAF2HDE   One of the the comments from the video indicated that the car was sold for over a million bucks.  Does anyone have any info on either car -- history, disposition, all that good stuff.  I'd love to know something about either car. I not only had an impressive meal but was taken aback at the opulence of the car, but was disappointed that not much info was available on site and that the other car was locked.  Any clues, gentlemen?

Obviously, if you have a million plus to buy the car, you probably have the half million to make it happen.  If you haven't got a clue, you just made a bad investment because you didn't have all you ducks in a row before you bought it.  It's like buying a house and not being able to pay the property tax because, oh wait, I forgot about that.  That won't fly.

Any Idea on how the cars got there to the Main Street Station Casino in the first place? Was there a side track off the UP Line or where they trucked in and placed their. I know in Indy IN the cars that are part of the Hotel at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis-Dwtn-Union Stn - where orginaly on tracks at the Indy Penn Station.

Main Street Station is not defunct. Was there last week. The place where the cars were is now a parking lot.

Last read was that the cars are NOT going back into service but will be guest houses at someones ranch. I also doubt that such old cars could pass a crush test to be Amtrak ready
