Adding a big barreled Baldwin boomer (as in "exhaust) to the active 4-8-4 fleet will be a great achievement indeed!

We have ALCOs - 844 and 261

We have a Lima - 4449

We have a Roanoke Shops - 611

We will soon have not one, but two, count 'em two Reading Shops - 2100 and 2102 (although one could make a case for these being at least partial Baldwins)

And to complete the fleet with a Baldwin - 2926

All in all, a pretty impressive collection for the second decade of the 21st Century!

Is the steamer being restored to full operating condition like the #3751?

3751 was built by Baldwin.  The restoration of 2926 doubles it up, and what a doubleheader it will be!  Big Smile

D'oh! How could I forget 3751, the granddaddy of them all!

The SP&S 700 was recently in operating condition, now in shops.  She's a Baldwin. Shouldn't be more than another year if things go well.  Milwaukee Road 261 is an ALCO, also running.

As a boiler inspector, I wonder who signs off on the report. DOT or an insurance company? Both? I've never inspected a locomotive boiler, damn it!

The National Board can tell you everything you need to know - in fact the NBIC was (and is) the organization supporting the Engineering Standards Committee that developed the 49CFR230 standards that, in part, define the current legal procedures for locomotive hydro testing.  49CFR230.36 is the applicable section.
