Has anyone railfanned the line up to Janesville Wisconsin that 765 will be traveling? Never been to the area.
The line runs mostly in a northwest-by-west direction from Fox Lake, IL to Janesville, WI so goes more cross country in an area that has a lot of north-south-east-west road grid. However, US 12 parallels the track for quite a few miles out of Fox Lake, and then US 14 gets close to the line again at Walworth.
In Janesville, Wisconsin & Southern has a nifty restored, still-in-operation roundhouse and turntable, and it is directly adjacent to two public streets. However, it is close to a large Y which I am guessing will probably be used to turn the train.

Sounds like its going to be a fun trip. This is my first main line steam excursion there is a hour layover so do people normlly stay on the train or are we allowed to get out and photograph the 765?
The issue of the layover has varied from trip to trip. On Norfolk Southern, layovers were somewhat common, but some simply included picking up lunch. However, since this trip is not on NS, it is likely that there will be some form of photo opportunity while the locomotive is serviced. The issue will be where the work is done and how many locals will be crowding around. The material does mention a photo runby or two, and this can be a good spot to do one since you have time to load/unload.
