Some of you may have seen this already, but I came across this 27-minute history of the Mt. Washington Cog Railway on our local PBS TV station, then found it on line. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it go to full screen, but I still think it's interesting.

I have taken that trip pushed by a steamer. Stood in the back of the car.
Engineer and fireman are quite busy on the way up. On the way up at the water stop, one is busy with an adjustable wrench checking fittings.
The loco pretty much coast on the way down as they do not hold the passenger car.There are no couplers.
The brakeman in the car does all the braking on the way down.
