Is up 4-6-6-4 3985 down and out? I hear she,ll need a complete overhaul although that was done in 2010...... IF his is true... How long is it gonna be? Will she still be used like 8444? If Restoration is needed. Will it be after 4014? I hope all three will be used. Just like up did back then. I mean the can they had the money back then and have even more now.

The 3985 is not down and out, she will eventually return to service, possibly next year.

I read something about the tires getting flattened and needing to be replaced because something went wrong with the communications link between it and the diesel engines it was running with, and it was dragged down the track for some distance with the wheels locked up before someone managed to climb on board and get it stopped.

Cacole

I know 844 suffered such a fate while on the centennial tour in Texas, crews were able to restore the profile by means of grinder and welding without the aid of a shop building.  I have heard that the 3985 does require extensive running gear work to what extent I cannot speculate.
