Say, what happened to Mario? I hope young Gabe and I didn't scare him off!
gabeusmc No offense taken Sir, I mean Wayne. Spelling is my hardest subject and it takes me about three rewites just so I can understand my papers, but I do love to write. I also love to read. I always have a book I am reading. Thanks for all the tips. And I was with that guy who said, "who was he gunna run from", untill I learned that it was so you could run after the bad guys. Thank you Wayne. We better get back to the subject befor the Topic police come.

Who cares if the bad guys run? Like Marine snipers say, "Don't run, you'll only die tired!"
"Mess with the best, die like the rest" -U.S. Marine Corp
MINRail (Minessota Rail Transportaion Corp.) - "If they got rid of the weeds what would hold the rails down?"
And yes I am 17.
Stand by everyone, Gabe and I are going to have a little Marine talk here. Go to the kitchen for a snack of some coffee, step outside for a smoke, make a "head call", whatever. The topic'll still be here when you get back!
Well hello Gabe! So you do come from a Marine family, I suspected as much! And you want to follow in you Dad's and Grandpa's footsteps. Good for you! I'm sure you're every bit the man that they are. And you can do the three mile run in 19:40, that's great! The best I ever did was 19:50. And take my advice, work hard on that upper body strength, it's just as important as the running is. We had a guy in my Basic School platoon who was a body builder, his upper body strength was incredible! He could bend the pull-up bar, straighten it, THEN start doing pull-ups! But he had one problem, he couldn't run! He used to say "Hey, I'm a Marine, I'm not running from ANYONE!" but of course the Corps didn't see it that way. He had to work very hard to make the run minimum times. Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet as well.
I too have always been interested in military history, you'll find some of the greatest stories ever told there. Now you won't learn much military history in the Corps, aside from Marine history, but serving in the Corps or any branch of the Forces will give you an appreciation of military history that those who never served will never have, no matter how much they try. That's one of the reasons I joined, and like you I felt it was something I needed to do. And it does give you that feeling of crazy pride that lasts the rest of your life. I see some guy with a bumper sticker or license plate frame bragging about something or other and I say to myself "OK pal, swagger a bit if you like, but YOU'VE never done what I'VE done, you've never been where I'VE been, and no-one made me do it either. What you did just took money!" Ah, that old Marine swagger, it never really goes away, you just learn to hide it a bit!
Don't take offense at this, but reading your posts it looks like you need to work a bit on your spelling, grammer, sentence structure and syntax. Remember, a Marine officer needs to communicate well as well as lead well. My advice is to READ, before you can write you have to read, and as a Marine officer you'll be doing quite a bit of writing from time to time. You're only 16, you've got plenty of time, so get some good books and don't just read what's in there, look at how it's put together, how the author frames his thoughts and puts them on paper. There's some good ones I can recommend in military history, Bruce Catton's books on the Civil War, James Thomas Flexner on Washington, John Thomason on the "Old Corps", ( his "Fix Bayonets!" is a masterpiece!). and the incomparable Steven Ambrose's works on World War Two.
I could go on and on but I think we've tied up everyone else long enough! Best of luck to you! OOOO-RAH! Wayne (Call me Wayne, I got out of the "Sir" business a long time ago!)
Thanks for sharing that video; very nice!!!

No Sir thats not to personal.
Yes i do come from a Marine Family. My Grandfather (Paternal) was a CPL. in the Korean war, he fought through the Chosin Resevoir. My Father joined the Marines as an officer in the 1980's after college. He was an MP and rose to 1 Lt untill discharged for bad hearing. These examples lead me to decide upon becoming a Marine Officer.
But there are others. I have always been interested in Military History and decided being in the military is the best way to learn about it. Another reason is that I used to be a real lazy kid, that a lot of people liked, but also make fun of. I decided one day I would try to do the hradest thing I could Think of. and That would be Joining the CORP as an Officer. I am no longer lazy. I run and lift weights. I used to be barely able to run along a football feild without stopping, now I am running 3 miles in 19:40 and its going down.
Well hi gabeusmc! Glad you liked the joke, There's quite a few other things we used to say, but not quite appropriate for a family-oriented site like this. A bit off topic here, but do you come from a Marine family? Your tag line says you're 16, planning on joining the Corps someday? No need to answer if you think I'm getting too personal.
Sincerely, Wayne former 1st/LT USMC (R)
