Following the release of news from a non-official source a clearly annoyed National Railway Museum has issued a statement confirming that plans are afoot to bring all six surviving A4 locomotives together in 2013.
If the plan, which is at a very early stage, comes to fruition the 4 UK based locomotives will be joined by USA based 60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower and Canadian based 60010 Dominion of Canada.
The NRM, which says it is “disappointed” that the news has leaked out, confirms that it has been in negotiations for the last 6 months with the National Railroad Museum in Wisconsin and the Canadian Railway Museum in Montreal. The NRM says that there are no plans to permanently repatriate the locomotives and that both 60008 and 60010 will be in the UK for a limited period before returning to their respective museums.

Are the Dominion and Dwight operable? It would be nice if they were. It would also be nice if the new A1 "Tornado" toured North America like the Flying Scotsman did years ago. I was on it at Penn Station in 1969, what a thrill! It was also a thrill to ride behind the Tornado last week from Euston to the Severn Valley and return. On time in both directions! OK, so I'm bragging, but there was one black mark against the Tornado trip- no real ale!
As I understandit, the "Dwight D. Eisenhower" is inoperable. It's preserved in very good condition however.
