Hi, Sorry, but no steam. You probably heard about a train called the Erie Limited. It was a private train that consisted of Bennett Levin's 2 restored PRR E-8s as well as 8 - 9 privately owned luxury railcars. It left Hoboken on 8/5/2011 at 6:50am. I caught the train at Hoboken Thursday night and out on the mainline in Mahwah on Friday.

There is certainly something worth seeing in Port Jervis. Erie 833, the last remaining Erie E-8, sits by the turntable, fully restored and fully operational. It is owned by a shortline and used occassionally on excursions. It is worth the trip to see an Erie loco at an Erie engine facility in a town that was a major spot on the Erie. By the way, the Erie 833 still survives for the same reason that Bennett Levin's ex-PRR E-8s survive. The three units were the engines that Conrail used on their business trains.

Rumor has it that there will be a steam train going through Port Jervis, NY on the old Erie Main Line.  Does any one know anything about it.

Thanks.

Not 100% certain but I did notice in the following linked article that was posted on 'PASSENGER" Section of this Forum by Dave [Phoebe Vet] -linked-

There is mention of a stop in Port Jervis, NY. by the Excursion Train pulled by Bennett Levin's restored E's and some 1950's restored passenger equipment. It is a sponsored trip for 'rare mileage' and the info is in the accompanying linked article.

This may be the source of the confusion over power for the trip?

Hope this helps.

I haven't heard anything about it, but bear in mind steam operations would be contingent on who owns the line.  If it's CSX, forget it.  CSX won't allow any antique railroad equipment on any kind on their tracks, the exception being Amtrack compatable private coaches.  If it's owned by Norfolk-Southern or New Jersey Transit, then MAYBE, just maybe...
