Only once did the CB&Q offer a steam fantrip with two big engines -- one of the engines was 2-10-4, Number 6315. Unfortunately, there was trouble along the way to Galesburg, but Burlington's 5632 saved the day.

Thanks for posting the pictures and web site for the story. I had seen the 6311 and 6313 several times at Centralia Illinois in 55 and 56. They both had the dual mars light above the headlight unlike the 6315. I was wondering if the light was removed or maybe the 6315 never had the extra light mounted.
Anyone know if this locomotive ever had the mars light mounted above the headlight?

#6315 did in fact have the mars light mounted above her headlight. And I have seen this in other pictures. I own an HO scale model of this M4 class locomotive in brass, and it too has the mars light mounted above the headlight.

Are you sure? The Q started applying the mars light in the early 50's. I've got pictures of 6315 from 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958 and 1959 without the light. I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain it was never equipt with one. I've got a fairly clear picture of her smokebox front from 1956, and there doesn't appear to be any evidence of one ever being there.
