The first A-1 class 2-8-4 was built by Lima as a demonstrator and first went to B&A where it received road number 1 and went into regular freight service in February 1925. B&A nicknamed it Berkshire and ordered 25 class A-1a's. The test engine went touring on other roads and was eventually purchased by Illinois Central who numbered it 7050, ordered 50 more, and called their 2-8-4's Limas. It probably ran on B&M as well.
