That's a cool B not M

Great-grandson of Henry Ford invests $1 billion in Michigan Central Station (msn.com)

That could fund the entire rail preservation movement in North America's wildest fantasies for a decade or more, he said enviously (remember "Tom Swifties"?)

It will be $1.5 billion before he is done.

He-he-he.   He already overpaid for the shell of the building from the Moron family.Big Smile, and it cost $90 million.   The above story is several years old, restoration is well underway and should complete by the end of this year.    They are also restoring the building next to MC station which will open in a few months.     Here is the recent status.....

I keep hearing the building across the street referred to as the "Book Depository".  It was never called that.  It was a Detroit Public Schools warehouse called either the "Roosevelt Park Annex" from when it was part of the USPS or the "Roosevelt Warehouse" in its school days.  I know because I worked there from 1979 to 1986 when it caught fire and was gutted.  I was the one who called 9-1-1.

There was a story in the Sunday Detroit Free Press, but it is behind a subscriber wall.  It mentions that Google will be a major tenant in the office building.  They are calling it a "cool" site.

"Book Depository"

It's kinda like adding "gate" to any scandal post Nixon.  Post Dallas any warehouse for a school system will be a "Depository" since 1963.  Confused

What's interesting is that only the 3rd floor contained books.  It was also office supplies.  The second floor was custodial, art, science, engineering and bulk paper.  First floor was receiving, bulk custodial (TP, etc) and food service.  The basement was more bulk storage and overflow.  There was a tunnel between the basement and the MC station, from when mail was shipped by train.  It was blocked at that time and I don't know if it has been reopened since.
