Someone from the steam crew wants to know. As I recall, this is actually in the '47 Cyc and might be in the '41, and could be in one of the 'steam team' presentations or blog entries, but I can't remember the detail. (ISTR it was Nathan).
Someone with the knowledge or a Cyc please set us straight while the engine is still in St. Louis.
Well, FWIW, the '47 Cyclopedia gives you a choice of either a Viloco Improved Gollmar Bell Ringer or a Viloco Vacuum Bell Ringer. However, looking at what photos I can find, neither of these are visible, and, it almost looks like it may have a cartridge ringer like on a diesel.
Upon further review, photos in the Kratville Big Boy book show a cartridge type ringer.
Now, my question is, why doesn't the crew know what they have?
