BigBoy Schedule after the Golden Spike events
Posted by CNW_4009 on Sunday, May 5, 2019 8:20 PM

What will be the BigBoys schedule after the golden spike events, where will it run? UP said it will run "all over the system".

Thanks!

UP has the present schedule on their website (www.up.com). Not sure what they have planned for after it.

It's possible they might announce something during the Ogden ceremony. Or they're possibly waiting to see how well 4014 ran during this whole trip before they plan any more.

I agree with Lord Atmo. They probably need to do some work on 4014 to fine-tune a few things. For instance, from the pictures it looks like the left front cylinder might need a bit of work to fix a small steam leak. On a complicated machine like 4014 there are bound to be a few tweaks needed.

But what an awesome job on an awesome locomotive by the UP Steam Crew!

The Big Boy stops July 30th from 9:45 to 10:30 at the Rochelle, Ill railroad park next to the webcam! Here is the Big Boy schedule: https://www.up.com/heritage/steam/schedule/index.htm.

Wow! Wonder if Kalmbach can change the camera location for that time.

What are UP's plans for the Bigboy in 2020?

Do you think that the Big Boy will run ever anywhere outside of UP territory?

Like an east coast road near me? Smile

If one looks where Big Boy has not been yet on the UP system, it has not been to Northern CA and Portland-Seattle.

One might suspect another potential loop trip out that way - say, out to CA, up to the Northwest, and then back across Idaho to Wyoming.

Also, if I recall correctly, UP sent the Challenger down to Houston one year for the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl is going to be in Los Angeles in February 2022, so perhaps they might send the Big Boy down to Los Angeles for the event.
