I'll keep my trust in my friend in the steam program out there. He is saying a possible hydrostatic test before labor day with a break in run by Halloween. Yeah they are kicking the living crap out of the overhaul.  He said they are starting rolling tubes .

I would say that Cheyene is going to suprise us this year on the 4014.  If they make their goal and according to my friend is if they get her under steam with a break in run before Thanksgiving they have been promised the rest of the year off with pay.  What do you think the odds are that she is running before the 4th week of November.  Some of these guys have not had a vacation in 4 years.

The rest of the year off with pay?  Wow, that sounds like a hell of a motivator!

However, I'd hope they'd keep someone in the roundhouse to keep an eye on 4014 so a bunch of crazy railfans like us don't fire it up and run off with it!

Well maybe if she done by Thanksgiving, the up would have blown thier entire pay roll budget for the year!! Either way let's hope she done as quickly and safely as possible.

A short video taken of the progress they have made. https://youtu.be/r0Blw89ZsbI

Here is another one that is a more comprehensive overall look at the shop https://youtu.be/TJWOsxNokaQ

According to my friend that one of the missing staybolts is being held out for the CEO to put into the engine.  In the second video you can see the rubber hosing that was being used to run sand lines and lube lines also on 3985 when they are looking at her boiler.  The crew in the Steam shop was told no more days off until 4014 is running THIS YEAR also last week.  The CEO wants her break in run done before the end of this year come as my source was told by Ed himself.

Waht kind of screwed up contract do those guys work under?

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Zugman all contracts can be modified if the workers on it agree to it.  You have to remember this about the Steam Program in Cheyene it is a small shop in the UP they are doing what they love and also are keeping the heritage of steam alive on the UP so they are more than likely going to be pretty flexible with how they are willing to work.  They got told last week 13 on 1 off till 4014 is done.  The shop employees answer was okay we will be here and get it done.
