Old Peppersass, the original locomotive of the Mt. Washington Cog Railway, will be making a return appearance.  No longer in steam but a real pioneer.

Yeah, me too.  I enjoy every train show I go to but it's been a long time since I went to one and had my jaw hit the floor when I walked in the door.  This one's supposed to be a stunner.

Ah, maybe next year.

Another visitor to the show.

“Derby” To Visit The 2018 Railroad Hobby Show

The Shore Line Trolley Museum is Bringing “Derby” to the 2018 Railroad Hobby Show.

This small 4-wheel electric locomotive was created by electric railway pioneer Charles Van Depoele, and built by the Pullman Palace Car Company in 1888,

Van Depoele was an electric railway pioneer and is credited with the invention of the trolley pole, a device used by streetcars to collect current from overhead wires. By the end to 1887, thirteen North American cities had electric railways in operation, nine of these systems were designed by Van Depoele.

In its lifetime, “Derby” was in constant competition with steam locomotives for freight business, and regularly won those contests.

The fact that “Derby” is at the Shore Line Trolley Museum is a tribute to Charles Harte who saw the historical significance of this machine and fought for its preservation.

“Derby” was acquired by the Shore Line Trolley museum in 1982, and has been restored to operating condition.

The trolley will be on display in the Better Living Center January 27 & 28, 2018.

The West Springfield show has always been great. I have been going since it was a one building, one day show.

I live about fifteen miles from the show and town of Amherst and use to belong to the Amherst Railway Society.

Don't miss it. CSX yard nearby and a restored Union Station in Springfield.

Weather looking good for Saturday and some rain Sunday. Both days in the forty's.

Rich

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

Edaville No. 11 should be arriving this evening and be in full steam Saturday morning.  If you're there at opening time her whistle is the opening signal for the show.

Mid 40s to 50 both days and no rain.  Made the parking lot a little muddy.
