4-8-4s (and moral-equivalent Berks) do me just fine, thank you.  Hope we can add a streamlined one out of Roanoke next year, too, with a little Amtrak assistance.

Certainly Steve!  Big steam's cool, no doubt about it, but I'd be interested in anything else you could resonably pack into the issue.

I am enthralled with big steam, but I worry about support for all the steamers out there that could use a hand in promotion and funding. So, I couldn't argue justly that any one issue should be so exclusive, unless it had a deliberate restriction to a narrow theme.  I am happy to learn more about a 2-8-0, a tank engine, or a monster articulated, provided the supporting text includes a reasonably comprehensive history for the locomotive, and what the plans and needs are for it to at least not be allowed to deteriorate any further.

Yes, include other locomotives.  Steam is steam, and I'd like to know if/how it's being looked after regardless of the number of drivers, boiler pressure, or tractive effort.

I have the persuasion that small steam operations are the genesis of larger ones.  Yes, I am thrilled trackside with the 611, NKP berks, and the 4501.  Yet, those superstars take massive logistic support and big maintainence progrem.  Bless Roanoke, Spencer, Ft. Wayne and Chattanooga for the work they do.  Even more problematic is a place to run.  Without Mr. Moorman, we face uncertainty.  What is more certain is that small steam, using over the road lowboy trailers,can be showcased at different venues.  The public exposure can be geographically larger and more accessable to the public.  So cheer on the big ones, but it is the little ones that will carry on with the steam experience in the face of economic and tactical problems.
