Trains Magazine is accepting proposals through Oct. 15, 2014, for its annual $10,000 preservation award. The grant will go to a nonprofit educational organization in the U.S. or Canada for the restoration or repair of a locomotive, rolling stock, or a structure; or for the establishment or conservation of archives. Priority goes to projects of regional or national significance, for which the grant will make a significant impact, and that will be spent by Dec. 31, 2015. Proposals should be no more than 200 words in length, include an additional basic project budget and up to five images. Editor Jim Wrinn will announce the winner at the Association of Tourist Railways & Railway Museums annual meeting in Tyler, Texas, on Nov. 8. The winner will be profiled in Trains’ January 2015 issue in the Preservation department.

I would like to Nominate The Maine Central #470 . This poor old girl was the last Std Gauge Steam in Maine and has been neglected and now has a chance at running the rails again with the help of New England Steam. Now it needs funds to get it moved to the shop and get repairs underway. This is this engines last breath, its now or never for a once proud passenger Steam engine.
I nominate Rio Grande Southern No. 20. The locomotive is owned by the Colorado Railroad Museum, but has been in Strasburg, PA undergoing a costly restoration for many years.
