CPR Angus Shop Builds a K1a (4-8-4) in 1928

Stumbled upon this old video of the construction of CPR 3101 from Pattern Shop to finish at the CPR's Angus Shops in Montreal.

Note: IT IS A silent movie, and the music is a bit contrived(?), but the process of construction, and the old machinery is very interesting to watch. If one is interested in steam engines, and their construction processes; this video provides a spectacle no longer around to be seen by any. Enjoy!

[I use a Fire-Fox browser and was able to increase the size of the video by use of the ctrl key, and then the plus/equal key,punching it to increase the size of the screen on the video to a larger size for better viewing]

A WONDERFUL film, thanks so much for posting it!   A great look into a past time and a lost world. Thank God for motion pictures!  AND the unsung heroes who took those cameras where we could never go.

By the way, I think a modern day OSHA inspector would get a case of the "vapors"  seeing those men working without hard hats and safety glasses!

You are sooo Right! It is absolutely scary; yet they accomplished much, in Canada, and the USA, without the later day nanny state mentality we seem to have 'protecting' us from every little danger.

One other thing.  Maybe I'm fooling myself, maybe it was the film quality, but I'm sure I could see the pride on some of those mens faces as they were doing their jobs.  Those guys were good, and they seemed to know it!

And all you other Forum visitors out there, you have GOT to see this film!

    Watching 3101's grand exit from the roundhouse--what a diva!   No diesel has that kind of ego!
