Dave, what makes you feel, they were better? To be fair, it should be onsidered, that the T1 appeared in 1930 and SF Class 5011 in 1938. More STE on one side, more HP and speed for the other one. Personally, I lfound E.H.'s  article about "A T1 Update" very persuading. This was a lot of locomotive. Cheers
