Yesterday, Jan 15, 2011, Steamtown NHS ran the Ice Harvest Train to Tobyhanna, PA. I did not ride or chase, but did catch this view of it outside my window. I also have others, but could not get photobucket to cooperate on my computer.
If any of the Trains guys chased or rode, please post your experience here, in words or photos.
If you are unaware of the locomotive, she is Canadian National Railways 2-8-2 no. 3254, built in Kingston Ontario at Canadian Locomotive Co. in 1917.
Coaches are 1925 built Central of New Jersey combine no. 303, 1917 built Delaware Lackawanna & Western "Boonton" coaches no. 550, 580, 589 and 613. Teh tail of the train was 1916 Pullman built no. 353, presidential office car of the Lehigh Valley RR.
Where in the heck were you standing to get that photo? I have never seen that angle before. It looks like someones layout. very nice.We usually stay in the Lackawanna hotel so its really neat to see it from a different view.
Magnificent photo! Would make a great Christmas card!
On December 27, 2008 I was in the yard there and made some short videos of the loco with a couple cars behind it. I was one track away as there was hardly anyone there that day. Did a short video of the train coming through the yard on a short jaunt. Great place. I could wander all around the yard.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Tim,
You folks in NE PA sure have had the Winter for it. Beautiful shot! Your pitcher sensitively captures the valley in Winter.

That photo shows the power of the telephoto lens. I shot the photo from my attic window, approx. 1 mile South of downtown.
Here she is passing the Radisson.
... and passing the University of Scranton.
I was able to get quite close when I was there.
