The altamontpress.com post mentions a trainorders.com post which contains a rumor suggesting the train might come as far south as Ferndale, WA. If true, it will be a very abbreviated visit to the U.S. Get your travel docs in order ASAP if you want to see more of this thing on the north side of the border. Better yet, makes plans for the return of CP 2816 and its popular circle trips around the Rockies in September and October, eastbound via Crowsnest Pass, westbound via Kicking Horse Pass.

Is it possible that if this trip occurrs that it is related to the winter olympics?  Time frame would be important in answering my question.

It is advertised to run south to White Rock, BC on February 8, with the reverse run north on Feb 9th.  There is no way to turn the engine at White Rock so I assume it will go further south into Washington State to find a wye and possibly stay there overnight.  The West Coast Railway Association website may have more details.

As suggested above, the time in Washington is very brief and is to facilitate turning only.  No passengers will be crossing the 49th.
