Spring is here, so the Siouxland Historical Railroad Association displayed their steamer outdoors. It is a 1909 Baldwin that left the factory as a 4-6-0. However, in the 1920's the GN remanufactured the boiler and firebox and added a set of trailing wheels to support the change, thus making a 4-6-2 out of it.
The paint scheme is how it would have appeared in the late 1920's. In those days the mountain goat in the GN logo was depicted facing the camera. In later days he was shown in profile instead. Here is the logo on the tender:
Some folks have noticed a similarity between the original "full face" goat and GN founder James J. Hill....
