The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad has abruptly withdrawn its operation from Dillsboro and is now suing the city over damage to one of the passenger cars.

Wow, what a tangled web.

I remember seeing this railroad featured on the 1990s "Tracks Ahead" series with Chuch Zehner (r.i.p).

I've worked on heavy vehicles and have fabricated repairs to steel assemblies.  I'm just wondering what specific damages did the passenger car received as a result of the city's repaving?  Were the truck assemblies that severely damaged?

$42,000 is a good chunk of change and even if the shop's labor rate is $75.00 per hour (railroad's calculated cost of labor, space, time estimate, etc) I'm wondering what type of damage there is to justify that cost (unless the truck assembly must be replaced).

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

Not much of a suprise. Allen Harper CEO of American Heritage Railways said during Railfest in Durango last month that they were ceasing operations of the Dinning train from Dillsboro because the railroad was losing alot of money running it...

This bit from the first link made me laugh...

Alderman Jim Cabe doesn't think so, saying the town does not want to settle the lawsuit because he doesn't believe it is at fault.

"If I kicked you in the nuts, would you expect me to pay you for it?" Cabe asked.

LOL! Yes, If I got kicked in the nuts better believe I would do an equal ammount if not more damage right back Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]
