This is what I figure is happening with me also. For example, when trackside I can hear the dispatcher talking to trains all up and down the line, but I can only hear the train responding to the dispatcher when the train is "near" (within my antenna range). I suppose the train only has to get picked up my the nearest antenna then it gets to the dispatcher via landline, whereas the dispatcher gets broadcasted from every antenna (which I just so happen to be next to). Of course, when I get a couple of miles from the tracks, all I can enjoy are the sounds of silence :)

Let me get this straight, you can here one person clearly but when the other responds, it comes out with static? If so, the same thing happens to me sometimes. I have an RS Pro-91. I haven't really been able to fix it but the problem could be that mabye you are listening to dispatch trying to talk to a loco and the loco is far away.
Hello. I think this is probably the best forum for this question. Here goes... I recently purchased a Radio Shack Pro-82 scanner, so I am a newbie in the realm of scanning. I have heard some radio transmissions on my scanner, but I only pick up one side of the conversation. What can I do so I can hear both sides of conversations? Is this possible to do with my scanner?
Thanks in advance,
Martin
