Savannah Ga?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, September 17, 2006 7:53 PM

I recently moved to Savannah and have not been able to find any good yards for watching frieght trains. I found  what I thought would be the main yard here and I was very disapointed becuase it was just an intermodel yard for csx. If any one knows where to spot some nice cars down here it would be greatly appreciated. Is there a larger yard for boxcars?

thanks

I believe the csx intermodel yard is called central junction. I am not sure of the name of the second yard but i believe it is owned by Norfolk Southern.

One is on the former ACL and the other is on the former SAL heading south.

Wouldn't NS have their yard further north ?

Have you looked at this-

Oh wow thanks for the last link, looks like lots of good info. Those two yards are the only ones I've found around town but thanks again.

The NS yard is called Dillard. It doesn't seem to have a good vantage point of the yard itself although there are roads that cross the far ends of it.

The yard that can be seen to the south of I-16 was a CSX yard that I have been told is being operated by the Riceboro Southern but still owned by CSX. Lynnes Parkway gives a quick view of the other CSX yard . The other end can be seen from US17 further south. I have been told visitors are not allowed [ unless you know the right people]. The NS yard is north of I-16.
