Real excited!! Headed to Folkston, GA, nest month to view CSX's double track main through Folkston into Florida. Just wondering if anyone has any "tips" for train viewing here (different locations, etc.). Been to Rochelle, IL and Galesburg, IL, and really enjoyed them both. Time for CSX action! [:)] It'll be a nice change from my residential flat-land UP Arizona viewing. Thanks in advance!

I would not recommend going on Sat. mainly in the afternoon because CSX has a horrible condition down there called "bottle necking".

Bring drinks,Mosquito spray (BIG THING NEVER FORGET), lawn chair due to the sun you might want to move to the other side. Note there are ants there try not to set your drink on ground also watch your feet for them. There are alot of resturants near trackside McDonalds is in walking distance not to far to miss a train. Burger King, DQ, Subway, and try the Okeefanoke Resturant they are open M-Sat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the breakfast is good but haven't tried the others everything is homemade(the food). Its on Main Street. Tell me what you see I will be headed there May 28-30 or 31 then head over to your land in AZ well go past the tracks on I-10 in Tucson to Phoenix for no railfanning, family visiting.

I visited Folkston 7/6/06. 9:45 AM til 3:15PM. 16 trains including 1 Amtrak running about 8 hours late. Several BNSF and UP locos.
No problem with bugs or ants.
The resident afficianados say early AM , starting about 5 is best, but the average is 3 an hour all day. Some dead time , some almost continuos action.
Amtrak trains are late evening to early morning if on time.
