Railfanning CSX in the Baltimore area
Posted by NareBNSF on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 3:55 PM

Is there anywhere good to railfan CSX in the Baltimore area? I looked at Halethorpe, MD, which is near Baltimore. I also would like to know how many trains a day go through that line, if anyone knows. Thanks!

The Halethorpe area is the most concentrated area of CSX operations in Baltimore.  The Old Main Line Sub connectes to the Capital Sub at control point St. Denis.  All MARC Camden Line trains pass Halethorpe in both directions on a M-F basis.  You are looking at 20-30 freight trains per 24 hour period + the MARC schedules for both the Morning and Afternoon Rush Hours.

To the extents possible, freight traffic is mostly operated outside of the commuter windows.
