Clarksville TN

I am going to be visiting in the Clarksville TN area in June. I understand there is a local freight that goes into Clarksville along Wilma Rudolph Blvd. I would like to get some pictures on the bridge over the river going into Clarksville. Does anyone know the days it runs, and approximate times? Is there a place to meet it before it gets to the bridge? That way I can get set up. Thanks much

I bought my first new car in Clarksville at Mathews Nissan in 1986 while stationed there with the 101st Airborne.     It ran flawlessly from 1986 until I traded it in for a new car in 1993.   Took me through college and to my first job which was the plan.

Was last in Clarksville in 2009.

No problem and I think if you want to railfan on Ft. Campbell you can as long as you stay in the built up areas (stay away from the woods and ranges).   You have to enter through Gate 7 to get a visitors pass.    Don't let the security or uniforms intimidate you.   Their security looks like an overseas embassy with the barriers rising out of the road, etc.     Once your on base though.....nobody really cares what you do as long as you stay away from the wooded areas which they should explain to you when you get your visitors pass.     The unit that flew the Bin Laden raid with the top secret helocopter equipment is stationed at Ft Campbell, security will intercept you long before you see their equipment but they are located in a heavily wooded area as well.......they are not at the airport.     So like I said stay in the built up areas as much as possible or have the Gate 7 people shade the map where you cannot go.

One of the best units in the Army.    I used to fly on those Blackhawks, awesome technology they had a fully digital dash in the mid-1980's and I can imagine what they have advanced to now.      From an Infantry perspective they are a lot quieter vs. Hueys and can do much better with terrain of the earth flying at high speed, very hard to target one of those while flying with an experienced pilot.

Anyways, tell your Son in Law he may not realize it now but he will always remember with pride his days with the 101st.
