A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all! And we have a great 2016 in the works for RIDEWITHMEHENRY....hope you all will get a chance to ride with us. January will start out on Wednesday the 20th, weather permitting, from NJT's Netcong, NJ station to Newark Broad, to Newark Penn to Bay Head to Hoboken to Netcong. Will be posting details soon, but let me know if you're gonna be aboard. We also want to retry the Shore Line via Amtrak to Old Saybrook, CT from NYP, and back via ConDot service... and MNRR to GCT in either Feb. or March. Would also like to do the Hudson line again with snow on the mountains and ice on the Hudson. High Bridge NJ and Danbury CT are two places we've not done in several years and should do again, too. Like to do the LIRR Museum some Saturday in Riverhead. But also want to take another Keystone ride to H'brg as well as a few SEPTA rides including the 101 and 102 rides and finish the 15 ride; there's a lot more in Philadelphia that must be done, too. If anyone has any ideas you think we can or should do...most all we'd be doing again or again again, but so what...just le me know and we'll see what can be worked out. RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
And a Happy New Year to you, Henry! I just read your proposed ride-along and got exhausted just reading it! Man, WHERE do you get all that energy from, and will you bottle and sell it?
Actually not that breath taking by any means....long train rides to rest, the quick spurts beween the two Newark Stations aren't strenous and the walk from Bay Head Sta. to and from the Ark Restaurant is not more than 5 minutes each way. Call ahead for reservations and to order lunch, so that's easy going. Across the platform connections at Dover and Long Branch going, an easy walk around the platforms at Hoboken on the way back and, depending on which train out of Hoboken west, there might be a cross the platform change at Dover or a ride through to Netcong. The most strain of the day is probably the almost 3 hour drive to and from the house to Netcong. But it is all fun and relaxing because we are riding trains, this time of year seeing a lot more than when the trees are full of leaves, and, did I mention, we are riding trains?
It appears we might have 11 people lunching at the Ark Pub in Point Pleasant Wed Jan 20th We have 4 people from Binghamton in my car to Netcong. One person from Hazlet will join us in Dover; one from Bogata at either NYP, Newark, or Sec. Jct.; one coming from LI; two from Philadelphia area, another from Oklahoma at Newark, one boarding at Woodbridge. All anyone need do to join us is let me know where and when we should expect you. 8:36AM out of Netcong, 11AM out of Newark Penn sta, and return on 2:05 train out of Bay Head to Hoboken. But we need to order our lunches a day ahead, so, all the more reason to contact me. Costs will be your train fare and whatever your lunch will be...so let me know, we love to have you.
