Rochelle strobe
Posted by PATRICK GRIFFITH on Monday, June 8, 2015 8:46 PM
When watching the Trains camera at the Rochelle diamonds I have noticed that the second pole line pole west of the diamonds along the BNSF has a white strobe very high on the pole that is activated very intermittently. I can't figure out a pattern for its use. Anybody know what this is for?

Strobes sometimes don't synch well with video cameras - the flash is so quick that if the scan isn't in the right place camera will miss it.

I'd opine that the strobe is on a tower in the distance which is coincidentally aligned with the pole.  Haven't been able to find said tower yet, but if it's new, it may not show up in the satellite images.

Edit:  the FCC database shows a recently granted permit for a tower at  41-54-11.0N  089-06-05.6W.  If that has now been built, it may answer the question.

That Lat / Long seems to be in UP's Global III facility, SW of the diamonds....

You're right - must have pulled the wrong set.

Try this one:  41-55-10.0N 089-07-04.0W

That's north north east of the Global III tower.
