I have heard a lot about Irondale, Alabama and thought I would wonder on out there. Could someone give me some info in regards to location (i.e. where the heck is it ), number of trains, safety, and any additional info. I'm sure that I am not the only one curious about this place. Thanks in advance.
Irondale is an eastern suburb of Birmingham. NS runs roughly 30 trains a day through there.
Here are some examples of what you might see;

Thanks, it looks like a good place to check out.
I was just there a month ago and I liked it. There are 3 platforms in the area outside of the yard, so no worries about a place to sit or tresspassing. I would really recommend this place.
I saw 7 in about 3 hours or so.

If you go to Irondale, be sure to stop and get a bite to eat at the Irondale Cafe, right across from the NS main line. We profiled the cafe in our April 2006 issue, and I had a wonderful lunch there later that year. The cafe was the inspiration for the book and movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" (although I did not sample that specialty when I ate there). Enjoy!

Will do..
Matt,
Thanks for the pictures. My grandson Jeremy loves horses. Guess what his favorite road is ? In fact, I just purchased the the Lionel NS Oil Can set. He hasn't seen it yet.
